New Magellan eXplorist 210 - Map Expandability, Large Internal Memory

Magellan announced that they will launch the Magellan eXplorist 210 , beefing up the eXplorist line to include GPS mapping capabilities in a low priced handheld GPS model. The eXplorist 210 includes USB conectivity, 22MB of space to store downloaded maps, a 2.3" grayscale display, and accuracy to 3 meters, all in a water resistant shock resistent case.

Details
It comes equipped with base maps and the ability to store 190,000 personal points of interest, 150 files with 20 routes each, and 150 track logs with 2,000 points each. Magellan has also added Geocache Manager software to allow geocachers to easily download geocache information directly from the internet. The unit is compatible with the Magellan MapSend Software, which allows for additional detailed maps to be used. Further, the unit is compatible with MapSend Topo 3D USA, MapSend Topo Canada, and MapSend DirectRoute North America. Prices are still to be set. Summary and Comparison to Garmin Models
To us here at the GPS Lodge, it looks like Magellan is going directly after the Garmin eTrex Legend Monochrome product which is similarly priced to the existing eXplorist 200. The existing Legend is monochrome too, with mapping capabilities, but it only has 8MB of internal memory, and has a S-L-O-W serial connection. If the price comes in close to the existing eTrex Legend or eXplorist 200 (it is), the new eXplorist 210 looks like a good deal for anyone wanting an entry level mapping capable handheld GPS. This would be a good option for outdoor hobbists who are Geocaching, hiking, biking, camping, etc. If you want routing on roads to get from here to there, you'll want an auto specific product like the Magellan Roadmate line or the Garmin StreetPilot line.
