TomTom GO 700 GPS Review

TomTom is not as well known in the States as it is in the UK, where they is a market leader for the Automobile segment. They have a strong performer in the TomTom GO 700 as it is easy to use, with its standout software with loads of customization, and accurate mapping capabilities.

Addresses can be entered with a text editor, pre-view your route if you wish, and you are off. The TomTom GO 700 lays out the route on a large screen in either 2D or 3D, along with key GPS/navigation fields like estimated time of arrival, speed, distance to your destination, etc. The TomTom GO 700 also has Bluetooth, which allows you to connect to your bluetooth enabled phone and use it as a hands-free speaker phone. Further, you can sync up your addressbook in the phone to the TomTom 700 and use these addresses as navigation points or destinations for your travels. It comes ready to navigate right out of the box, with pre-loaded maps and millions of points of interest, on its 2.5 GB hard drive. A nice added feature is the speed sensitive volume level, so going down the highway, you can still hear the turn announcements over the wind and road noise.

Pocket Lint liked this device a lot, giving it a 9 out of 10. If you can get past the UK-isms ("Of course there were the few gripes and bugbears to get past.") you should read the review. They conclude, "We can highly recommend the TomTom Go 700..... We struggle not to give this unit a 10/10."

Also worth noting is that the TomTom GO 700 unit is able to use the TomTom Plus services, which include Real time weather, download new voices for the turn by turn announcements as well as live traffic updates. This is all available through a cell phone based data connection. Check TomTom Plus website for details.
