Mio finally launches the Mio A701 in Europe

The Mio A701 is a GPS Enabled smart phone that runs on the windows operating system.

The Mio A701 was announced in August (see article) and now it is finally hitting the market (In Europe). The A701 is a PDA-style phone with a 2.7in, 240 x 320, 272,000-color display. There's a 1.3mp camera on the back and a 520MHz Intel PXA270 processor inside. It also has 64MB of SDRAM and 128MB of ROM.


The A701 is a tri-band GSM/GPRS device. It also offers Bluetooth 1.2 wireless connectivity. The integrated GPS receiver is powered by a SiRF Star III chip. The SiRF Star III chip is known for its low power draw and its ability to fix accurately on signals in difficult locations. The antenna is fitted into a bulge on the top-left of the device. Mio has bundled its own MioMap route-planning software, along with maps from Navteq.
