Directed Electronics NAV350 GPS
Directed Electronics, announced at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show that it is entering the vehicle navigation category with the NAV350 Portable Navigation System. These folks make a couple of interesting portable video products, so I guess they thought it might be good to jump on the GPS bandwagon. I'll keep my eyes open to bring more on this - sorry the news is brief.
An easy to use plug-and-go portable navigation solution, the NAV350 features a 3.5 inch LCD touch screen and the complete USA map on an SD storage card, with turn-by-turn voice instructions, 1.5 million points of interest, and a built-in MP3 player. The NAV350 comes with a suction cup car mount, AC and 12V chargers, and an internal, rechargeable lithium-ion battery that lasts up to 5 hours. It is truly portable, and features a Pedestrian Mode. Street price is expected to be $699, and the system is scheduled for Q1 availability.
According to Jim Minarik, President and CEO, "Directed has been in the GPS tracking business for several years with cellular and web-based products that allow consumers to locate their vehicle at any time on an internet map or over the phone. We see vehicle navigation as a natural extension of our security and convenience business."
