NemeriX, a leading fabless semiconductor company specializing in ultra low power RF and base-band chipsets and software for GPS and wireless applications - today announced that it is demonstrating its newly released indoor-, outdoor- and Assisted- GPS solutions at the 3GSM World Congress, February 13-16, in Barcelona.

NemeriX’s NJ2020 is a hosted GPS baseband processor that is specifically designed for the mobile handset market, by combining unmatched power, performance and accuracy, with the industry’s smallest size and form factor. The NJ2020 achieves indoor sensitivity as low as -158 dBm while consuming under 50mW, and is available in a 6x6mm BGA package which utilizes the memory and processor resources already available on a host platform such as a PDA or mobile phone.

Today’s announcement follows the recent release of the NJ1836, which is a single-package outdoor GPS receiver that incorporates RF base-band and flash memory. Both chipsets leverage NemeriX’s proprietary voltage management technology and patented expertise at the system and block level. As a result, the NJ2020 and the NJ1836 can facilitate a 70% reduction in power consumption and chip size over competitive offerings.

NemeriX’s new chipsets facilitate quick and easy integration into mobile devices, such as mobile phones, PDAs or other Bluetooth enabled handheld devices, to deliver GPS capabilities in autonomous or assisted mode across wide area networks, including GSM, WCDMA, CDMA, and iDen. With less than 5-7 MIPS of Host processor requirements, Nemerix’s NJ2020 places no real-time demands on the host CPU and permits simple interfacing via UART, SPI, or I2C. Source code for Nemerix Navigation Software is also provided permitting faster time to market.

“In order to deliver the world’s best-performing GPS chipsets, a company must combine the industry’s best RF, base-band chip design, and navigation software,” said Bijan Mohandes, NemeriX’s Vice President of Worldwide Sales. “Our award-winning team of developers has addressed the challenges required to bring GPS capabilities to mobile handsets on a mass-market scale.”
