New Toyota FJ Cruiser with Available Garmin Quest 2
Have you seen one of these around town lately? They look great and very retro. Anyway, if you wanted to drop some bucks on this seemingly capable on and off-roader, you can drop a few more and get the optional Garmin Quest 2 GPS available this summer direct through Toyota. Looks good sitting in its own little dash holder (see photo below). The Quest 2 features auto-routable, turn-by-turn, voice-prompted navigation with automatic off-route and detour recalculation. With the brilliant 256-color backlit TFT display, the Quest 2 is easy to read in any light. This waterproof unit also has a rechargeable internal lithium-ion battery that provides up to 20 hours of use; of course it comes with a 12V charger for the vehicle.
The Quest 2 seems like a good cross over GPS for this vehicle, as it is waterproof (IEC 60529 IPX7 stds) and seemingly rugged enough to hang out on the trail. The 20 hours of use on the battery would be a good feature to allow on trail, out of the car use when hiking too.
Not my first choice for hiking, but not a bad occasional use product. So, while it comes pre-loaded with US street maps, it is also compatible with Garmin's Topo maps that would be great off road travels as they detail Highways, roads, hiking trails, snowmobile trails, backwoods trails, elevation contours, point elevations, summits, some bathymetric contours, geographic names, churches, and schools, as well as details about shorelines on lakes and ponds. What more can you want? Better gas mileage than mid-teens on the Toyota? Well, besides that.
