Garmin Teams up with USA Triathlon Program - Forerunner and Edge units to be Used

USA Triathlon has announced that Garmin has signed on as a corporate sponsor and an Official Supplier to the USAT National Teams Program. As part of the agreement, Garmin will provide Garmin Edge 305 HR+Speed and Cadence Sensor units, Garmin Forerunner 305 units and GPS mapping units appropriate for course scouting purposes for use by National Team athletes and coaches. So, if you didn't think that Garmin Edge and Forerunner products were serious business, think again couch potato! Clearly these outdoor training GPS units help out.
“Having a company of Garmin’s reputation partner with us is a great coup for USA Triathlon,” said USAT Executive Director Skip Gilbert. “Garmin’s name is synonymous with high-level advancements in global navigation and communication. We’re excited to offer their products to our Nationals Teams and our members.”
“We’re pleased to supply the world’s best triathletes with some of the world’s best GPS fitness and training devices,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing. “The Forerunner and Edge series of products offer unique features that let athletes of all skill levels reach their best performances.”
The compact, waterproof, and wrist-worn Forerunner 305 maximizes GPS satellite reception with a new high sensitivity GPS receiver that provides faster acquisition times and improved tracking. The Forerunner lets athletes measure and analyze speed, pace, distance, heart rate, and more. The unit’s Virtual Partner feature lets users compete against themselves by graphically displaying goal pace/speed compared to current pace/speed.
For cyclists, Garmin incorporates many of the same location-based features into its bike-mounted Edge 305, a one-of-a-kind GPS-enabled cycling trainer that tracks time, pace, distance, and more. The Edge 305 incorporates a barometric altimeter and a heart rate monitor for the ultimate performance measurement device.
