NAVTEQ - Program to Upgrade your Maps
NAVTEQ has announced a program to alert you as to when your maps are out of date. This works for in car and after market systems for a handful of vendors such as Alpine, Becker, JVC, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony and VDO. The deal is that you register your product and then they let you know when there are updates for your maps. More at NAVTEQ
That's all well and good, but here's what I want.... after the jump:
I want a well designed application like TomTom HOME that also auto-downloads map updates from my manufacturer. My MacMini is perfect in this regard - downloads updates and takes care of me. Ideally this download would be for free, but I am sure I would pay if the maps and maybe even coupon offers/ travel planning deals were coming my way too.
While it would take a heck of a lot more effort, I want the map data companies to be able to take input from us the people on the road everyday. Now I don't want some idiot pushing his changes through to my GPS uncensored, but hey there are thousands of us driving everyday with these things, when you find a mistake or a new road that isn't mapped, send it in. Get the survey team out here and get it fixed and then push it to my [Insert GPS Manufacturer Name Here] HOME program that syncs to my GPS.
