Japan May Launch Own GPS Satellites

Japan is considering launching some of its own GPS satellites to augment the US based GPS satellites so that the accuracy and coverage is improved for Japan and surrounding areas. Not satisfied with the accuracy of the signals, Japan could by launching their own satellites, improve accuracy in crowded cites and urban canyons. Apparently special receivers would be needed to access the signals, but since the plans call for the launch of these satellites in 2009 or after, don’t alter your buying plans yet.
