Garmin Users Update Your Mapsource

For those of you with a Garmin unit, if you haven’t already done this, you should upgrade your Mapsource program on your computer to a recent version, at least version 6.9.1 or better, preferably the most recent. The upgrade to the 6.9.1 version allows for exporting and viewing your tracks in Google Earth. So while Google Earth is arguably useful, I see it as total eye candy. Sure you can do lots of things with it, but the best is just showing off its capabilities and wow-ing some friends with the route you recently took, or the hike you just went on. The image here is a recent hike that we took up Mt Washington.
To see your GPS data in Google Earth, simply have Google Earth installed, and while you are viewing your GPS data (tracks, waypoints, routes) in MapSource, click on View, then View in Google Earth. Your data will appear in Google Earth. From there, you can save it, share it with the Google Earth community, or capture it as a JPG.
