Review: Garmin GPSMap 60CSx Arrives for Review
The Garmin GPSMap 60CSx handheld GPS arrived for review here at the old GPS Lodge and we're happy to take it on a few outings to test it. The
Garmin 60 CSx is the top of the line handheld GPS out of the Garmin shop, and recently won the Gear of the Year award from Outside Magazine. The unit comes packed with a lot of features and is able to help you get there and back in style.
UPDATE: See our Review of the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx
The 60CSx is quite a bit larger than my little eTrex Vista C, and I am a bit nervous that I won't like it as much due to the added bulk. For that added bulk I get a much larger screen, about 50% larger than the eTrex Cx series, as well as the very obvious quad-helix antenna for added reception capability. I also get several buttons that are always available like Find and Mark, as well as a big rocker switch that should be a bit easier to operate than the little thumbstick that comes with the eTrex units. Of course, as with all GPSMAP "x" models, the GPSMap 60CSx has a SiRF star III chipset that will help out a lot in your outdoor pursuits, with better satellite signal holding capabilities and better battery life. (The eTrex "X" models do NOT have the SiRF star III chipset.) On a pair of "AA" batteries the unit is rated for 18 hours of "normal use". The GPSMap 60CSx has a barometric altimeter and an electronic compass that differentiates it from its sibling the GPSMap 60Cx, that is also packed with features but does not have the altimeter or compass.
Well, we're off to go Geocaching and hiking through the woods.
What's in the box?
60CSx unit,
64 MB microSD card,
Belt clip,
USB interface cable,
MapSource Trip and Waypoint Manager CD,
Lanyard,
Owners manual, and
A quick-start guide.
What's in that red circle? That's the microSD card sitting next to a dime; pretty small eh?

"Of course, as with all "x" models, the GPSMap 60CSx has a SiRF star III chipset that will help out a lot in your outdoor pursuits,"
Not true.. the eTrex "x" series isn't using this chipset.
Joe,
Right - I meant to say with all the GPSMAP "x" models (i.e. the 60Cx and this model, the GPSMAP 60CSx, as well as the GPSMAP 76Cx and the 76CSx). The eTrex units do not have Sirf star III.
I added some text above for clarity.
Thanks,
