I thought I would put together a bit of a roadmap to the new GPS announcements from Garmin, Cobra, and others at the CES 2007 show. They are coming fast and furious, so it may be tough to keep up:
Garmin is the Gorilla here with a flurry of announcements to kick off the show:
Nuvi 680 and StreetPilot 580 both with MSN Direct connectedness for Gas Prices, Traffic, Weather and movie updates.
Nuvi 370 and Nuvi 670 – New GPS upversions with both North American Maps and European maps pre-loaded for jetsetters.
Garmin Zumo 450 - the little brother to the Zumo 550 motorcycle GPS.
Garmin Astro 220 – A dog tracking combination with a specially designed GPSMAP 60CSx and a dog mounted transmitter to track while hunting (this is announced from the Shot show in Orlando).
Garmin VIB 10 – an interface box that allows a StreetPilot C550 to feed your Aux input on your car stereo.
Garmin at National and Alamo – New partnership look for a customized C330 model for rent with your car.
Garmin Acquired DCI a Location Based Services provider; this is the future of the GPS industry; directions are commodities, we need connectedness.
There are some other big news items here too:
LG is entering the US market with 4 GPS units for the automobile.
Cobra will be launching the NavOne 2100 - entry level GPS with some nice features for a good price.
Cobra Nav One 5000 - Cobra also pre-announced plans for a big 5 inched screen slim unit that will be available this Fall.
DeLorme Earthmate BT-20 – The new Earthmate BT-20 will be shown at CES, a Bluetooth GPS receiver.
NAVTEQ announced the availability of a special pedestrian friendly dataset, “Discover Cities” for use on mobile phones or other navigation devices.
Clifford Scout 420 – a new portable GPS that looks a lot like a Sony PSP; plays music and maybe movies.
Clarion NICE 430 was announced Saturday; the widescreen comes with Bluetooth handsfree capability.
