Lost with a Navi-Phone

Nice article just got posted about some of the hurdles a mobile phone based navigation system has to get over to perform well. Now this article written over at The Street has some bias built in that you should think about when you read it. The author is a bona fide GPS nut, but hey that means there are two of us. So, he is approaching his mobile phone navigation experience from the standpoint of “downgrading” from a stand alone all in one device to a phone based one, shrinking the screen and reducing the interface capabilities dramatically.

Now consider the casual user who hasn’t used a Garmin, TomTom, or a Mio and s/he might think that the mobile phone based experience is great the three times they need it a month. Hey their needs may not be that complex so the quick system would in fact be great. Now s/he will also be blown away if they ever saw what some screen real estate can do for you and what a more complex operating system can do too.

Anyway good read over at The Street on the tough hurdles a mobile phone based navigation system will experience.
