Suunto GPS POD
Suunto has a tagline; "Replacing Luck", and as luck would have it, reader Joost sent this one in - The Suunto GPS Pod a GPS receiver for all of your outdoor activities. It will track speed and distance. The GPS Pod is an accessory for Suunto's wrist mounted training watches/computers and it will add the distance and speed functions to your data capture. The unit uses ANT wireless technology that is also used in the Garmin Forerunner series to transmit between the separate modules.
The Suunto GPS Pod is only a couple of inches in diameter, about 3 ounces with batteries and is water resistant to IPX7 standards. When used with the Suunto t6 for example the unit can record data and then transfer the data to your computer for analysis with the free Suunto Training manager. I should mention that the Suunto t6 has a couple of innovative training measurements that at least on the surface look like they can really help training. They appear to be able to get you to VO2max and EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption), which were previously only done through lab testing. While they back into the numbers deriving it through heart rate; it certainly looks cool.
