The Mio C310x is a step up from the Mio C310, with similar hardware features, but a totally different, and better in my opinion, operating system that has made this a popular choice for value hunters in the market. Don't sell the unit short, it's got a lot going for it at its low price. The unit runs on a SiRF STAR III chipset and has a sleek thin flat form factor that makes it easy to travel with. It comes preloaded with maps of the US, and is able to play MP3's. The unit runs on TeleAtlas maps, which at this time are still of the older generation, and not the newer more accurate ones that have been released. Don't worry though, new maps are coming this "Spring" says Mio.
One feature I wish it has is to calculate a route starting from a place other than where you are, like if you are in California, you want it to show a route from Tucson, Arizona to Houston, Texas, I don't think it can. Or maybe I just haven't figured out how to do it yet. If you know, please email me biantibody@yahoo.com. Thanks a lot.

This GPS should be avoided!
It's simple to use BUT...
The company has PUSHED BACK their Map update release as it was suppose to be in early spring of 2007 (right now!).
Many of us C310x users are using a GPS unit with 2005 (read: OUTDATED!) maps as many geographical locations are NOT listed in the unit (Obviously)!
If the company does NOT release the Map update by the summer of 2007, then all of us that purchased this unit during the winter holiday of 2006 have basically bought a very expensive paperweight as it's essentially USELESS in the city esp. in the Northeast!!
I'm sure the main highways in the US are fine but the smaller roads in the each city WILL be a PROBLEM since the map is OUTDATED !!!
Buy Garmin GPS units as they release a New Map Update CD about once a year, currently v. 8, N. American Map CD, updated in Fall, 2006!

It seems that Mio-Tech is perpetrating a FRAUD on the buyers of the 310x. Not only are they not honoring their public commitments to deliver map updates for the US and to make Europe maps available, they are now not even owning up to the fact that they promised that. The FAQ that stated that they would release the maps in Early Spring 2007 and then in the 2nd Quarter 2007 have been pulled from the website without explanation.
Moreover, after using the 310x for 7 months now, I find it to be very poor in most places in getting one to one's objective. A two week trip through Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico showed numerous flaws with the maps even on Interstate highways. It seems that small maps are abutted together to create larger maps and in one instance on a trip from MOAB, UT to Sedona, AZ, the 310x wanted me to drive 1 hour in the Northerly direction then double back instead of driving South!! this would have cost 2 hours of travel time, unless I already knew the way!!
We need to band together to get MIO to honor their committments. Otherwise this is a piece of junk.

Does anyone know when the new maps are suppose to come out for the mio310x? I check there site all the time but its always the same. How come with the new mio 220 it comes out with the new map but the mio 310x still hasn't came out. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I have a C310x GPS unit and it is very buggy. I use it in WA, USA and the problems are ...
1. Old maps!
2. Voice sometimes announces "left turn" when it should be right turn as mapped on the display.
3. It occassionally leads me off the freeway I-5 and takes me back in immediately!! This has confused a hella lot of me.
Bottom line .. this is very unreliable and I can't wait for the map updates! It's been spring for a while and there is no indication that mio-tech will release an update?
Should we file a petition??

I've been waiting for a couple of months already. What the heck are they waiting for? They obviously have the new maps since its coming out in the newer models. It also seems that they aren't listing the c310x anymore on their website. I'm getting pissed. Has anyone been in touch with them as to what is going on?

I spoke to MIO customer support on the 21st of June and was informed there would be a press release on their website within 7 days. Well 7 days have come and gone and still nothing. I am about to trash this thing and buy a Garmin. My maps do not include one of the newer major highways in my area and when I want to go to somewhere on the south side of the city, it takes 10 miles out of my way. UGH !!
after I purchased a c310x my home address was off around 1200 feet I let telatlas now this and now I install new update and adress is off around 350 feet, also shopping poi's are missing none for the youngstown oh area, also let telatlas now, this was not right paying 25.00 includes shipping for an update that that I lost this much from my area.

You are lucky John, I purchased my upgrade online and had Visa pay over 3 weeks ago and I can't even get an answer from them..I did get a confirmation within 5 min of the original order. Nothing since.
Upset, yes.

Has anybody run into issue updating the firmware and map on C310x using the Map Update disc (which I got from Circuit City)? After selecting option 2 to update the firmware, the map update application keeps saying "Failed to connect with the device. Ensure C310x is connected to the computer."
I tried both using Windows XP and Vista. I am very sure the device is connected as I went into Windows Device Manger and verified that the device is there after plugging the device in.
The strange thing is while Vista promted the fail to connect error right away after I selected option 2, Windows XP behaved a littlt bit differently. On Windows XP, after selecting option 2, c310x screen went blank and then showed the message saying "Upgrade Procedure". At this point suddenly, Windows XP popped up the new hardware found message at the same time displayed the "Fail to connect message..."
I went into device manager to check for c310x device and it was no longer there instead a new device named "SEC S3C2410X TEST B/D" appeared in the list?!!!
I email MIO Tech support, but have not heard from them for a couple days now.
Thanks

I am having the same problem as Mike, "Failed to connect with the device. Ensure C310x is connected to the computer." "New device found SEC S3C2410X TEST B/D". Any answers with this yet? I also tried to update Mio C310x on my laptop running Windows XP media edition and got a blue screen announcing a fatal error occured thus ending my second try at updating. I am waiting for reply from tech support.
Thanks, Greg

I am having a same problem with Greg and JohnT.
Have anyone resolved this issue?

Those who are having "Failed to connect with the device. Ensure C310x is connected to the computer" error -- just disconnect the USB and then reconnect. If the device is recognized and valid in Device Manager you should be good to go.

same problem as Mike and others. while try to update the firmware for updating the 07 maps, the system shows--"Failed to connect with the device. Ensure C310x is connected to the computer." Tetsu's suggestion is not good with me. Has anyone found out a solution yet?

I have a c310x and I am waiting on the upgrade also somebody let me know where to get it. I was told that I could purchase the update at Circuit City which is fifty miles from me for $16.00. I am calling before I go there to see if they have one. let you know how I come out.

I had the same "Failed to connect" problem!
I got in touch with MIO and their representative informed me that the device USB drivers are not meant to work with Vista.
Moreover they say I should try and use a machine with XP on it.
I took their suggestion.. managed to update my firmware using my friends PC; and then when I got to the part where I had to update the Map it wouldn t give my the activation code.
I got frustrated.. got home and called them back
and now they tell me that I should do the same process over and copy/paste and email my mapupdate serial number, the UUID and the device serial number to them and they will send me the activation code.Hate this! My device wont work in the mean time..No Maps!
Posted by: Ali at December 21, 2007 2:46 PM
Ok, finally got the activation code on my e mail
and im running the map update right now.. keeping my fingers crossed.. hope this works
After all this i really hope this is gonna be worth it...

if the computer doesn't recognize the gps, just unplug the usb cable and use a pen and switch the "on /off" to off and back on after a few seconds. now the computer should recognize it.
