Compare Garmin Nuvi 350/360/370 vs. Nuvi 200/250/270

A lot of people have been asking about the difference between the Nuvi 350/360/370 and the Nuvi 200/250/270. The differences are straight forward, and come down to a few features that can be easily explained.

Introduced a couple of years ago, the Nuvi 350 is still a very solid unit, which is a testament to its well thought out design and feature set. Don’t think it’s a dinosaur worth skipping; it’s not.

The Nuvi 350/360/370 have a few features that differentiate it from the Nuvi 200/250/270 line:

  • Nuvi 350/360/370 have traffic feed capability through the optional TMC antenna. If you buy the Nuvi 200 line you will not have the traffic feed option.
  • The Nuvi 360 has Bluetooth capabilities so that you can use it as a handsfree unit to make phone calls. The Nuvi 350 does not have this capability.
  • A sacrifice that you make with the Nuvi 200/250/270 is the lack of any text-to-speech capability. This is a big help in tough situations and is not common in the value end of the market.
  • The Nuvi 350/360/370 have an MP3 player and Audiobook capabilities, which the Nuvi 200/250/270 does not have.
  • The Nuvi 350/360/370 have a flip up patch antenna and the Nuvi 200/250/270 has an internal antenna. In my testing this does not affect the reception of the Nuvi 200 series – see my Review of the Nuvi 200/250/270. Cosmetic change that is not really a feature difference.
  • All the Nuvi 350/360/370 and the Nuvi 200/250/270 have travel aids, which include conversion calculators, etc.

A big difference is in the Maps depending on which Nuvi 200/250/270 unit you buy.

  • Nuvi 350/360 come with North American maps, which include the entire US, and Canada. You can add other maps optionally by purchasing them. The Nuvi 370 has North American AND European maps preloaded.
  • The Nuvi 200 has continental US maps – 48 states only.
  • The Nuvi 250 has North American Maps - the entire US, and Canada.
  • The Nuvi 270 has North American AND European maps preloaded.
