Garmin Nuvi 350 - Most Popular GPS
In researching an article the other day on pricing, I noticed not only that the Garmin Nuvi 350 is the most popular GPS selling at Amazon, but also the most popular electronics device at Amazon. More popular right now than all the digital cameras, SD cards, flash drives and iPods. Check out their Popularity Rank
for yourself (may change; updated hourly).
Personally I think that it is the amazing price on the thing, dropping a fair amount below $400 for the first time recently. It's $374 at this writing.
What's the next most popular GPS? The Garmin Forerunner 305 which with its $50 rebate, drops its price down to about $200.

Thanks for all the work on pricing. I just received my new Nuvi 350 today. But I did notice in looking around for prices that a lot of companies undercut the price of the unit and then seem to inflate the cost of shipping/handling to make up the difference. If it's at all possible, can you inform your readers a little bit better about how shipping can add on to the total cost of a deal? Sometimes that low price at someplace like The Nerds is not the lowest price available when shipping is added. Thanks for the work! -Tom Loughlin
Thanks for reading and thanks for the comments. You are right on about shipping.
I watch this market very regularly, and see that things can fluctuate rapidly. Places like the Nerds will move their pricing down earlier and faster than Amazon will in the event (my guess) of a manufacturer price rollback. So, I do like to offer those suggestions, but yes, shipping can hurt.
Recently the Nuvi 350 and Nuvi 360 dropped in price by about $50 a few weeks back. The Nuvi 360 was still about $459 at Amazon (free shipping) while the Nerds had it for $404 (+ shipping). the Nuvi 350 had a similar gap until Amazon followed them down after a few days, which were across a weekend which I think is a popular time to sit down and research then buy one of these.
Similarly, GPSNow beat Amazon on the Nuvi 660 when it came out as they were consistently under Amazon even with the additional shipping. This went on for a while as I recall, and the difference was a considerable amount of money.
With all of this said, generally day in and day out Amazon offers a competitive price at a retailer that you can trust, which is important.
I also trust The Nerds and GPSNow and appreciate their ability to offer prices under Amazon on the units that are in a period of price declines.
Thanks,
Scott
