Mio C310X Map Updates Announced!

MioC310GPS.JPG

Buy Map Upgrade from Mio

Yes, Finally! - All of us who bought those thousands of Mio C310X units back on Black Friday are pretty excited to hear that Mio has released updated maps that will install onto the Mio C310x units. Mio has had a date of June 20th on their Mio C310x FAQ for a while, pushing things out a week, and they are finally ready.

These maps should be the same as the Mio C220. I believe that the Mio C220 has a good set of maps. A lot of newer roads are now included, and it is obvious that things are much improved with the new TeleAtlas version. Read my Mio C220 Review for more information on the maps.

The details are:

  • Maps are available for $14.95 + $9.95 S+H; $25 bucks for an upgrade very good price.
  • This is a special "Thank You" deal for the people who stuck things out and helped put Mio "On the Map".
  • Mio told me that this is a special offer for C310X owners as most map updates cost upwards to $100+ at other manufacturers. Mio will most likely be around this price for future upgrades.
  • Mio will start taking orders for these map updates on July 16th at their website: www.mio-tech.com.
  • Map updates will be available at some Circuit City locations soon.
  • Details can be found at their website (scroll down once the page loads).

  • More information on the Mio C310x
  • GPS Lodge Review of the Mio C310x

Sweet! $25. Heck of a deal. I'll be in line to order one. I would have paid (a little bit)more for it due to the cut rate price on BF.

For those still wanting a free update. WAKE UP!!! The real world does not work that way.

Happy with the map it has now, but why not upgrade.

Posted by: Sven at June 29, 2007 9:35 PM

Of course free upgrades aren't part of the deal. That's an unreasonable expectation. However, I can understand the fustration of users who bought hardware with TeleAtlas maps -- which have been thoroughly documented to be outdated.

Good thing TeleAtlas got their act together.

Well, I think when the Mio first came out they said 'if you register, you'll get the first update for free', but they retracted that pretty quickly.

That price is excellent and well worth the money, I was expecting at least 50 bucks; with a price like this they'll be buying a bit of my loyalty as well.

Not a moment too soon either, I've been waiting with bated breath for these updated maps, as I'll be moving to a convoluted city with a lot of one ways that would make the current version of maps somewhat useless. Great job Mio!

That's a nice price on a map upgrade. $10 S&H is a little tacky, but even at that, it's by far the lowest price I've seen on a map update.

If there's anything to be disappointed about in the upgrade path on this model, it'd have to be that it's the shortest lifespan of any GPS I've ever seen on the market. Announced late fall, shipped early winter, Marked down over half price by the holidays and obsoleted and replaced by the C220 in spring. C310X wasn't around much more than six months, was it?

I'm not saying that GPSes need to be around forever, but they really should have a life cycle longer than a pair of shoes. It's really hard to get consumer loyalty when products go obsolete that fast.

Where can I get it? I can't see any updates avaliable on Mio website for 310X. Can anyone post link ? Thanks.

Posted by: Ivan at July 5, 2007 8:58 PM

The price is acceptable but I still think they should offer this update for free considering how outdated the current maps are.

    Posted by: logical1 at July 5, 2007 9:54 PM

when will map upgrade be avail for cobra GPS? purchased in may 2006 thanks

Posted by: barbara reed at July 8, 2007 12:57 PM

CAREFULL with the new maps. These should be same as the 220, and from what I see posted around the web, the 310 current maps are far better than the new 220 ones.
So why bother updating, if we don't get good maps? The 220 is missing roads that are already in the current 310x, and putting some in that aren't really there.
SOOOOOOO.....are these updates same as the 220 maps????

Posted by: robert at July 10, 2007 12:03 AM

Well, here it is July 16th and as promised, Mio has a page that tells you that you can buy the update from midnite PST to 3pm PST and guess what? THERE IS NOW FRICKIN LINK ON THE BUY IT NOW BUTTON...... I think their webmaster needs to go back to school..... What an a**hole organization.

Posted by: Bryan at July 16, 2007 8:04 AM

Previous post is incorrect. Map updates aren;t available for only one day. It is listing the start ordering times for later today. Anybody know when Circuit City will get this and will it be for $14.95 w/o the $10 S&H charge?

Posted by: eric at July 16, 2007 11:09 AM

    Ordered! Now I wait. :(

    Posted by: sleebus.jones at July 16, 2007 3:10 PM

Has anyone had any success ordering the map update off their website? I have tried several valid credit cards and none will go through. It tells me to try a different card or the code is not valid??
I called the company to see if they will take my order over the phone and they said no.

Posted by: Ralph at July 17, 2007 5:29 PM

Just tried again and when you get to the part where it asks to "select the shipping method" and hit next, I get this error:

    ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd'

Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record.

    /checkout.asp, line 237

    What a mickey mouse outfit.

Insted of adding more poi and roads for U.S why not concentrate on putting canada on the gps?

Posted by: brian at July 19, 2007 3:06 PM

Ordered the map update the first day, it arrived today (Aug 3) Updated the firmware from the DVD with no problems. However, still waiting on the map update. You have to enter a bunch of numbers to get an authorization code to complete the update. When I enter the C310x serial number the Mio website doesn't recognize it - bad news. I reported this to Mio support and hopefully will have a fix in the next day or so.

Posted by: John Sheehan at August 3, 2007 4:52 PM

I am also having the issue of my serial number not being recognized by the website. I have to say this is very frustrating! If and when a new update comes out I will not pay $100 for it, with the price of devices coming down there is no reason not to by a new device.

Posted by: Kevin at August 3, 2007 11:55 PM

At least you got your new update map. I ordered my the first day and still haven't received my updated map. I hope I don't run into the same problem you guys had. For ten dollars shipping we should have received the update quicker than this.

Posted by: Bob at August 4, 2007 4:28 PM

I ordered on July 16th. It's now August 7th, and I haven't received my update. I contacted Mio about it, and I'm awaiting a reply.

Did anyone click on the order status link in the confirmation email they sent? It takes you to some junk page full of pop-ups.

Posted by: Nick at August 7, 2007 7:23 AM

I also ordered the update on July 16 and still have not received it. I didn't even get the confirmatation e-mail that was supposed to be sent. I called MIO and they said it shipped with the first batch and that it is on its way. Now after reading about the problem with the serial numbers and such, do you think it is really worth updating?

Posted by: Terry at August 8, 2007 7:25 AM

I am happy to report that the site has been updated and finally allowed me to activate the Map update. Now I need to go test it, to see if it has been worth nine months or waiting.

Posted by: Kevin at August 8, 2007 4:54 PM

Got my map upgrade from CC for $14.99+tax. Just follows direction and updates mine and so should you. I am exploring and testing the new map and so far so good....

Posted by: James at August 15, 2007 1:29 PM

Ordered my update on July 16th at the appointed hour and guess what? I have not received my CD after one month of waiting. Hmmm. does this sound familiar to anyone? I called Mio twice and they told me it was shipped July 27th by USPS. I know the post office is slow but 3 weeks from California ? I think not.

Posted by: Bryan at August 17, 2007 9:43 AM

Does anyone have a product number for the DVD at CC. I called a couple of my local stores here in Orlando,FL and no one seems to know what I am talking about. I also cant find it on the CC website.

Posted by: Steve at August 21, 2007 7:49 PM

Mine took about 2 months to arrive. I never thought it would actually get here, I thought mio flaked out or it got lost in the mail. I've seen faster shipping when I ordered Hyundai parts from Korea using standard international mail... Anyway, don't give up, hopefully it'll get here sooner or later. My boyfriend has the same device, but we only ordered one, so I'm going down to the circuit city here in Orlando to see if they really have them there. I don't want to go through the 2 month shipping again for his copy.

First of all I (and most of us, I believe) bought this C310x in 2006 with outdated map from like 2003-04. If we don't deserve free updates for that reason, I don't know what would. Anyway I ordered the map update.
It took a month and four days to get the DVD. While I was waiting, I did not get any reply for the three emails I sent to their CS about the delay. The updates itself went smoothly without any problem. The routings though are not as what I was expected. It gives me the impression that the update changes the dates and version numbers only. My previously saved POIs and Favorites were never deleted throughout the update process. Strange?

Posted by: aks at August 28, 2007 8:42 PM

Before ordering this DVD via MIO WEB site I visited two CC store: in NY and NJ and no one seems to know what I am talking about. I also cant find it on the CC website.
Then I ordered my update on August 22. I still have not received it. I called Mio twice, they gave me a reference number and told me it was shipped August 24th by USPS.

Posted by: Alex at September 4, 2007 9:09 PM

Waited over 4 weeks for the update DVD. After upgrading the firmware and trying to download the maps, the link to the activation code did not work. After going to the website working around that problem and receiving an activation code, I was told the activation code is invalid.
It took me FOUR WEEKS of calling Customer-Non-Sevice and e-mailing tech support (e-mails must go to a big black hole there) before I finally got help. To top it off, the maps are still outdated. I have been in my new house for nearly 2 years and the street does not exist on the map. MIO - NEVER AGAIN !!!

Posted by: Solveig at September 7, 2007 10:07 AM

Just got the update CD from Circuit City. Updated the firmware without issue. When I went to update the maps, I was directed to get an activation code from the Mio website. The Mio website is requesting a product serial number, and indicates that this number is supposed to be located on a silver sticker on the back. There is a silver sticker on the back, but the serial number has completely rubbed off (probably because I carry it around in my pocket frequently).

I am the original owner and bought the device on Black Friday like everyone else, so the S/N was not intentionally removed by anyone, just poor manufacturing and cheap ink caused it to wear off.

So, at this point, I can't update it. I'll have to check with their tech support, but I'm not too optimistic after reading about everyone else's experiences here.

I'm curious to know if anyone else has had their S/N rub off, and if so, what you did about it.

Anyone have problem getting the canada map loaded to the C310x after the update? after I put the canada map to SD card, and loaded on the Mio, it says that the map is locked. I couldn't see any reason why it worked before, but not with this new firmware update...help!

does anybody know where to find the serial number on gps mio c520?

Posted by: Irene at October 28, 2007 1:08 PM

Does anyone know if there is an update that will work on the C220. The maps on my older C310X were more current than the ones I have now?

Posted by: Ozzie at May 7, 2008 11:14 AM

Forgot to submit my comments here, but here they are: Mio C310x Rocks! and even more with the update. I mean this unit is fast and to the point. I've used it to get me to some pretty remote locations and it knows where it is and how to get me there. Recently I've been trying out other units, like the Garmin, Mio Moov 310, Navigon 7100, TomTom, and a Magellan, and found that none of them are as quick and easy to use as this Mio C310x with the Mio Maps system. It Rocks! and now I can't wait for Mio's 3D maps to arrive here in the USA!!!
