Mio C310x Map Updates Available - NOW!

MioC310GPS.JPG
The Mio C310X firmware and Map update is available for purchase. We broke the news in late June, and are available for ordering now at the Mio website. I just ordered mine in a pretty painless checkout process; total cost is $24.90 with shipping. This is a thank you offering by Mio who I am sure pulled some strings to offer the maps at this price to those folks who helped put them on the map per se when they bought the Mio C310x.

From their website:
"Upgrading your device is simple! Once you receive the DVD just open the Quick Start Guide and follow along with our simple update process. There are only two steps: 1) Update Firmware and 2) Update Maps (this step updates the mapping software and map data all in one step)."

Follow this link to get started with the Mio C310X Map Upgrade DVD Ordering process.

C310x owners should be aware that this update with reduce the number of POIs to 1.5M.

I personally could care less about the number of POI's in the database if it will actually get the directions correct.

I am also hoping that this update will correct the most annoying habit the 310x has of avoiding interstate on and off ramps that circle around in favor of you taking the wrong ramp and flipping a (usually illegal) u-turn.

Has anyone actually received their update yet??? I placed my order on the day they started accepting them, and have only received a email confirmation message pointing to a website to check status that is obviously _NOT_ Mio: http://www.mio-update.com/status.asp

Phone contact attempts and emails to Mio go unanswered... *cough*

Ordered mine at the end of July. Got my update 2 days ago and installed it last night. It arrived after I received no e-mail confirming my order, no e-mail confirming that it was shipped, and after two e-mails sent to Mio inquiring about the update status went unanswered.

The update worked, but I haven't checked to see how good it really is.

I am getting tired of this mio c310. The directions are not accurate, their are missing locations, the website is useless, and on top of this all we have to pay for an update. This is not working out at all!

I ordered my update on July 24. Credit card was charged almost imediately. I did not recieve any emails confirming the order and have called three times. Each time I am told something different. I am now being told it was shipped August 3 and it takes three weeks for the USPS to deliver the DVD. Obviously MIO has a problem and not the ethics to admit it.

I received my map update. Nobody mentioned that the USB driver was updated also. The old one didn't work. There is a new street in Warner Robins, GA, named Russell Pkwy. It's a new route to the interstate (I-75) that saves me about 2 miles when I want to go north. It was nice to see it finally made it on the map. Unfortunately the algorithm that decide the route directions still ignores it and routes me 4 miles out of the way. Start at 310 Lakejoy Rd, Warner Robins, GA and route to Atlanta. The first two miles are south and Atlanta is north!!

Let me preface my comments that I bought my Mio C310X on Black Friday. Yes, there are some misdirections and POI's wrong/missing. Love the unit.

But the upgrade!!! Yeah it took awhile for it to come. No biggie as most places I'm going were on the old map. First problem was getting the PC and the unit to talk. My first PC (Windows Media Center) said there was no USB connection after trying several ports. (Tech support walked me thru that). Then Support said how about a different PC? I have a Window Vista laptop, nope, that won't work. My kids have a HP laptop with Windows Media Center. 2nd USB port worked, not the first...?. Then we have to dig out the orginal CD/DVD along with the S/N off the unit AND the S/N off the upgrade. (Why do they make the numbers so darn small?). Input (rather copy and paste) all 3 numbers and the upgrade took...I think. The unit shows the map to be version V3.2. Ok, maybe they didn't upgrade the screen to show what version they're using. Well, I tried to call Support this morning. Didn't want to hold so send me to a voice mailbox. It's FULL!!!. I'm not a Luddite, I had an Apple 2G and a Leading Edge PC. Support, when u get them, is ok (all Indians it appears) but what a set of hoops to jump thru.

Hi, I got the update too. I had the same usb problems as michael but it finally took. It still says v3.2, so I was wondering if it really updated or not?

Posted by: William at October 24, 2007 12:51 AM

The map upgrade stinks in my opinion. I used it a few weeks ago and tried to enter a street and would come up, so i looked it up in phone book and found it. Drove to the street and it wasn't on the map. Come to find out that street was new but the street is 3 years old all ready. So why wasn't this on the new map. Had this happen a couple of times all ready. Get this i live on a street for 7 years and the street was looked wrong on the old map and quess what the street is still wrong on the new map. Is it truely an upgrade.

Mio's site is listing the upgrade price as:
    69.95 - Map Update
    $9.95 - Shipping & handling

I though it was 24.90 total with shipping.
    What's up with the price?

Posted by: Steve at December 27, 2007 2:43 PM

Circuit City still has them at a decent price 17.99 + tax (pick up in store to save ~$4 shipping)

Trying to get in touch with Scott Plunket at Mio. I spoke with him twice, but now he is unreachable for me and his old E-mail address is no good. C

Customer support in the Philippines promises to pass a message to him and someone will get back to me. It does not happen.

    How can I reach him?

Posted by: Eric at August 6, 2008 4:24 PM

I have a mio310 and am very disappointed with their service.
They promise map updates for Canada but never see them.
I like the unit but have had it for a couple of years now so is a bit out of date and they offer no help to upgrade.
I f I need to buy a new unit it certainly won't be a mio
