Pioneer AVIC X3
Continuing their in-dash line of
AVIC receivers, Pioneer has a new infotainment navigation unit out, the
Pioneer AVIC X3, an in dash wonder looking unit that can do a whole lot besides getting you from point A to B. Pioneer is calling it the "Comprehensive Journey Partner" which may be right on the money.
The unit has a built in GPS receiver as well as a gyroscope to detect what your car is doing once it enters tunnels so that it can still spit out navigation help despite the fact that it can't get a clear shot to satellites. The unit also has TMC traffic, and 1.5 million POI, which may be OK for europe, but would be anemic for the US (I like 3+Million). I like the split screen treatment to the unit.
The unit will play CD and DVDs, as well as MP3, WMA, AAC, and DivX. You can also hook up our iPod with an optional cable. The unit can also go "Dual Zone" which allows you to play a movie in back on optional video screens while you listen to the radio and navigate up front.
