TomTom ONE LE

TomTomONENY2.jpg

The TomTom ONE LE is part of the Black Friday madness, and is an "Exclusive" unit made for Best Buy. A lot of people have been wondering what's the difference and what's the "LE" all about. "How does the TomTom ONE LE Compare vs. the TomTom ONE 2nd Edition vs. the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition?"

After I checked in with TomTom, the short of it is that the TomTom ONE LE is a TomTom ONE 2nd Ed with the new operating system, Navcore 7 pre-loaded, while still maintaining the North American Maps. Navcore 7 offers Help Me! and MapShare capability plus an updated look that I happen to like a lot. The TomTom ONE LE still has 5 million points of interest and a built in battery.

The TomTom ONE LE has Bluetooth capabilities, not to do handsfree mobile phone work, but to obtain data for traffic or weather conditions (optional subscriptions). Same as TomTom ONE 2nd Ed.

The TomTom ONE 3rd edition has the Navcore 7 operating system pre-loaded North American Maps and optional TMC inputs. This last point, TMC traffic capability, is the feature that the others don't have. You'd need the TMC Antenna from TomTom which costs $129, and it includes 12 months of TMC access with the purchase.

Update: Best Buy has a couple of GPS Units at BF Prices online NOW - check out the Nuvi 200 - $169, and the Nuvi 660 - $399, the SP C550 - $329, and the TTOne LE - $119 ("Coming Soon").

Do you know if the Tomtom One LE offers Spoken Street Names?

Posted by: jason at November 21, 2007 10:39 PM

I just got the Tomtom One LE ($129.00 at Best Buy), it does not speak the street names, which bothers me, it will say in 200 yards, turn left in 20 meters turn left - the street names are spelled out on the bottom of the screen. I will probably pay the 15% re stocking fee and look for another unit that speaks the road names - this was my first experience with a unit like this.

I just got this one at BestBuy online one Thanksgiving day

I'm a pilot used to using on board Garmin GPS systems. We have to update our GPS database online every 56 days to remain current. What happens with TomTom if a road moves, an exit closes, etc? It is "tough luck" and buy a new one in a few years because this one will be outdated?

Guys, I bought a tom tom LE on this morning from BB @ $119. its a loot at this price I thought. When I saw the specifications I found there are no Voice prompts. Does this GPS not having voice guidance ..how is it possible? Can anyone give a comment on this?

Posted by: AJ at November 22, 2007 6:52 PM

The voice prompts refer to specific street names which is not that important when its super dark and you can't read the street signs anyway. It will still prompt you to turn within a certain distance and it will tell you when to get into the lane you will be turning in. In other words it will talk to you. Don't worry AJ, as Michael Jackson sings, "You are not alone..."

Just bought tom tom one LE this morning at 5! at best buy.. wow it was insane but we got one at 119! awesome price! It speaks to you, just not the street names plus it has accents and different languages you can choose from like English accent, us accent, spanish, etc! But it is awesome! and it has a night mode which dims the tom tom to save energy, i would say this gps was a STEAL at 119!

I and 2 of my friends bought each of the TT Limited Edition for ourselves. We tried one of them and I definitely is going to return mine. The unit went freezing 90% of the time when you want to start a new route. In order to get it to work, it requires us to RESET the unit (yes, reset) as turning on and off simply doesn't fix this. Bottom line, Don't buy this CRAPPY limited edition, or buy it at your own risk. There is 15% restocking fees for BEST BUY

I tried to punch in my address into the tom tom one 3rd edition in the store and it did not have West Rd. (a very large street in my city, been there for over 70 years). The unit was on "Demo" mode in the store.... Does this mean that if I purchase one, that it will not have this road in it's database? Is there a way to add it later? Do the map upgrades cost anything with a tomtom?

Just got a Tomtom One LE unit. What bothers me was that everytime I turn-on the unit the GPS signal won't work. I always need to reset the unit just to make it work properly. Can someone help me with it? Is my unit defective? Thanks!

I got one TOMTOM ONE LE GPS on black Friday. Some time GPS lose signal, to make it work I have to reset device. It doesn't speak street name. It is my first worst experience with tomtom LE.

John, in order for the GPS signal to work properly, all you have to do is to download QuickGPSfix from Tomtom home. With that, resetting your device will be history.

I've been using the TomTom One LE for about 2 weeks now and it is a nice product. Like one post suggested, it's best to download the free updates from the TomTom home page and that should clear up any signal problems.

I'm just got my LE from my fiancee in the BB deal. I live in the UK, so there was no way of returning it. After spending 3 days trying to get it to work. (maps not loading etc) It is finally up and running. I have installed the Western Europe Map to the unit, and the USA map is on a (micro)SD card. Both work fine.
For those who complain about lack of functions: For the price its a bargain! - I ran the model number (4N00.005) on some UK websites and it retails at (£220/$440!). Its a mid-range unit, and you get what you pay for. (if you want text to speech you need to pay more)
My biggest issue has been with TomTom support. (or lack of it) many of the "faults/issues" raised by people are due to the lack of instructions, not with the unit itself. If you are prepared to browse the forums, most issues are solvable.
