GPS Reviews: Magellen eXplorist 600 rated highest of GPS Receivers in Wired Mag Review

In July Wored Magazine reviewd several handheld GPS receivers and they rated the Magellan eXplorist 600 tops, with the Garmin eTrex Vista C close behind. While they only commented on four total GPS receivers, I think that they are on target with their analysis. GPS Review: Garmin eTrex Legend C and Vista C by GPS Lodge

The newest updates to the eTrex line make some much needed advances in the features available to the Garmin consumer in a small form factor. The Garmin eTrex Vista C and Garmin eTrex Legend C models are good solid performers and are feature packed. Here at the Lodge, we have taken a look on the Vista C, and we like it. The color screens are good quality - not exactly a plasma screen in your hand, but still good. Both the Vista C and the Legend C models now hold 24MB of data, useful for bringing along lots of map information. This generation adds USB connectivity to your computer, which makes those large map downloads bearable. As in the monochrome line, moving from the Legend to the Vista adds an electronic compass as well as an altimeter. Both have extended battery lives over their monochrome brethren. Both have auto-routing capability - which is a big plus if you are navigating along roadways. Traveling with the Vista C or Legend C is a lot easier vs. their monochrome twins, as Garmin has added more features to allow for easier over the road navigation.

Forbes Magazine Article - Garmin Streetpilot C330

The folks over at Forbes Magazine seem to love the Garmin Streetpilot C330 GPS receiver for the automobile. The key here was the Garmin interface, as they certainly have done their work to nail this critical component. The set is small enough to carry from car to car, but the screen is big enough to use easily while on the road. The audible turn by turn commands are a cost of entry into this market.

Garmin StreetPilot C330 - Gadget of the Week

Time magazine has named the popular Garmin Streetpilot C330 their gadget of the week this week. Time really liked it for its ease of use, and its on-board battery that allows you to do navigation planning outside of you car. More and more I think this is a huge deal. I find myself sitting in my house talking about where we are going, and doing the route planning there. Without the battery, I'd be stuck in the garage figuring out where we are going, trying to yell into the house asking which place we were going to. Time also liked the ease of use right out of the box. The Garmin StreetPilot C330 is a step down from the Garmin StreetPilot C340 in the C-series line. When we used the Garmin StreetPilot C340, we loved it, and hated to send it back (see our review).
