TeleAtlas and TeleNav Sign Partnership


TeleAtlas announced today an agreement with TeleNav, North America's number one location-based services (LBS) application provider, under which Tele Atlas will supply global digital maps for TeleNav's industry leading products. TeleAtlas has been on a tear lately with several new or expanded partnership announcements. The company's well known product is called TeleNav GPS Navigator, a mobile phone based system. It automatically updates maps and business locations, offers speech recognition, dynamicly updates gas prices and more, according to TeleNav.

Rand McNally Mona: GPS Service for your Mobile Phone


Another mapping service has hit the mobile phone market. This one from Rand McNally has the ability to work with your phone to get you from here to there with easy to follow directions spoken from your phone. When I say your phone, I mean the currently available 4 Moto phones that only work on the Nextel service (Motorola i710, i730, ii736, i830, i860). More to come soon.

"With Rand McNally MONA, anyone who needs to get from place to placecan access reliable GPS navigation affordably using the cell phones theyalready have, without spending thousands of dollars on an in-car navigationsystem," said Robert Apatoff, Rand McNally's president and CEO.

The service will set you back $9.99, but if you need directions in a pinch, the price is cheap.

New BenQ Phones - BenQ EL71

BenQ Mobile, the company formed in October last year when BenQ Corporation bought Siemens Mobile Devices, got CeBIT 2006 under way with a football-themed launch of six mobile phones, including a Windows Mobile 5-based smartphone with Wi-Fi and a GPS receiver built in. BenQ Mobile has also announced that it is to offer Google search applications on some of its phones.

TeleNav Launches Turn-by-Turn GPS Navigation on the RIM BlackBerry 7100i


TeleNav Inc. today announced the availability of TeleNav's GPS Navigator, a Java-based GPS navigation application that offers visual and audible, turn-by-turn driving directions and mapping, on the BlackBerry 7100i(TM) from Research In Motion (RIM) . TeleNav GPS Navigator first launched on the BlackBerry 7520(TM) in May 20, 200605 as the first GPS navigation application available on the BlackBerry(R) platform. TeleNav, which is similar to the in-car GPS navigation systems found in luxury vehicles, displays maps, graphical driving cues, speed and direction, and provides audible turn-by-turn directions to help drivers get to their desired locations.

They are a firm that specializes in A-GPS or Assisted GPS technology. So, your GPS phone doesn't work so well in the concrete canyons of the city, or even indoors? Their technology can help.

Chitter Chatter Kids Phone - A GPS Equipped Kids Phone

The new Chitter Chatter kids' phone was designed to empower kids and parents with both phone and LBS tracking capabilities, with a suggested retail price of under $50. these folks are taking a different approach to the kids phone thing by dropping the phone into the watch form factor and using the GPS functionality to get location based information back to the parents.

Hop-on's Chitter Chatter kids phone will solve the answer the question of "Where is my child?" through state-of-the-art GPS Enhanced LBS (Location Based Services) tracking . The Track-Me! Feature allows the user to send the address of his/her location to their parents' cell phones via a SMS message. Parents can also track their children by sending an SMS message to their child's phone. The parents will receive the address of the child's location. The location can also be tracked over the Internet.

Verizon's VZ Navigator - directions from your GPS Mobile Phone

Verizon is launching a new GPS location based service, called the VZ Navigator. The service will deliver turn-by-turn directions with a voice interface for $10 per month, or $3 for 24-hour one-shot access (useful for travelers).

The service will launch on the new Motorola V325 phone (Right), but other GPS-equipped phones will follow. A major benefit of navigation services like Verizon's is the access to always-up-to-date map information. Integrated car navigation systems typically require the customer to purchase expensive update CDs or DVDs.

Route 66 Announces the Mobile 7 GPS Package for Mobile Phones

ROUTE 66 announced the launch of ROUTE 66 Mobile 7 that determines its position using an advanced high sensitive wireless GPS receiver, guiding the user with turn-by-turn voice instructions and on-screen directions to its destination. A new navigation display has been developed providing users with all vital travel information on a single clear screen of their mobile phone including 3D map display, turn arrows and navigation guidance, as well as the ability to dial points of interest directly from the map.

In addition, ROUTE 66 Mobile 7 features the latest maps, driving directions enhanced with upcoming exit signs and continued guidance when GPS reception is temporarily lost for example in tunnels through ROUTE 66's new Extrapolated GPS (E-GPS) technology.
